I read in a different article that after E3 2013 he was a bit of a jerk, so hero might not be the best choice.

he wasn't really being a jerk, he just basically said on social media he wasn't going to allow them to use his creations the way they planned to without his permission and he was making certain legal threats. He was pissed though, for obvious reasons. I'd be pissed too if I made something and somebody else treated it like they owned it. he also owned a lot of stock in bungie.

just found the two quotes.
O’Donnell reacted angrily and believed Activision had overstepped its proper role by assuming artistic control of the trailer music. Ryan, the CEO of Bungie, and management shared his concern and filed a “veto” letter with Activision, which overruled the objection. During E3, O’Donnell tweeted that Activision, not Bungie, had composed the trailer music. He also threatened Bungie employees in an attempt to keep the trailer from being posted online and interrupted press briefings.

Meanwhile, O’Donnell argued that the audio work could not be completed until the game was in a bug-free, playable state. He felt the treatment was unfair but said he would continue to work. Members of the team complained that O’Donnell wasn’t contributing as expected, and his presence was frustrating the completion of the audio work. Ryan proposed to the Bungie board that O’Donnell be terminated.
interrupting press briefings and being under-productive seem to me to not be the best way to react. he's certainly the victim but, again, I feel like hero is too strong a word.

He then proceeded to tank in performance of hos duties...he coulda talked all the smack he wanted and only gotten a slap on the wrist....but he let his bad attitude effect his work which is why he got shitcanned.
