It is a "MMO". It has elements related to the genre, but isn't really part of it.

Destiny is online RPG, not MMO.

Its more of an rpg than an mmo really. It has all the roleplaying tropes of the warrior, mage and rogue. Just without the massive online part. Massive is subjective though. But i feel 16 player tower n patrol doesnt quite feel massive to me, but it might be to you. I just feel people get the two terms confused for each other.
