If you read the update today, Deej mentioned that you will have to defeat Oryx to access the nightfall.
Assuming this means you have to beat the story missions, if you don't buy TTK you can't do those missions and now an endgame activity is being taken from you. Lol, taken.
I already pre-ordered so this won't affect me, but I can't help thinking this is kinda fkd up.
It's one thing to lock people out if they don't have the dlc for the strike being used for the nightfall on any particular week, but to completely remove this endgame activity from anyone who doesn't buy TTK seems a bit much.
Any thoughts guardians?
Edit: here is the exact quote from the update, right after it talks about the nightfall:
Did we mention that you’ll need to confront the immediate threat first? Oryx lies between you and these challenges. You'll need to survive his wrath to partake in the new endgame.
Edit 2:
Damn, that's a metric shit ton of comments, mostly constructive too. Nice job guardians!
Edit 3:
1100 comments? Holy shit snacks.
Edit 4:
It's official. If you want to reach level 40, you must have TTK. You also must be level 40 to run the nightfall. Nightfall is now officially 100% exclusive to TTK owners.

1 ReplyIt's normal. Endgame activities should go to players who have the full game. If you don't want to play the game anymore, then not having endgame shouldn't effect you since you didn't feel the game was worth further investing.
-
I think you have to fight oryx twice just like skolas. If you defeat him in the story mission you can do the nightfall.
-
6 RepliesOmg dude: for the ORYX NIGHTFALL all other nightfalls you can do at lvl cap
-
2 RepliesIt is the TTK only strikes.
-
You're playing a game that is 100% online and complain content you don't want to buy is now locking things Bungie has more than enough right to change as seen fit? Hahahahaha stop it.
-
4 RepliesEdited by bcmatt13: 9/13/2015 8:51:22 PMThat's your own fault. If you don't like a game enough to buy the latest content, you can't complain about not having the content. This is just as dumb as the post I saw where the guy thought he should get the 3 new subclasses without buying ttk, but had no reason other than him wanting them
-
22 RepliesYou dont need TTK, it said very clearly the level cap will raise to 40 when TTK releases.
-
5 RepliesWait where has it been confirmed? Can you link that or something. Also I'm sure this is only for TTK strikes, similar to TDB and I'm sure HOW (wasn't playing I had started gta 5 for a bit because I was bored with destiny)
-
...nightfall is an endgame activity; if you don't have TTK you're not an endgame player.
-

Indeed it is. Getting to level 34 required, for the most part, purchasing HoW. Why would you continue to play Destiny if all you're doing is the same content when everyone else bought all the new content to play? You have no reason to continue playing Destiny in Year 2 if you do not purchase TTK.

Its really just buy the DLCs or you get left behind
-
Ok..what's the issue with you being locked out of nightfall. Things are changing with Destiny. It is not their fault you do not choose to buy TTK but there is no where stated they aren't allowed to change content and lock certain people out because of it. Sorry guys move on with us or I'll be there first to say BYEBYE
-
Ill say it. Lot of poors in this thread.
-
Well if the nightfall will be lvl 40. And people without dlc are dapper at lvl 34... then they wouldn't be able to do the nightfall anyway.
-
So, Beat the Story Missions or Raid?
-
2 RepliesJust feels like natural progression to me. I used to play actual mmos and if you didn't buy the dlc, you were locked out of end game. Same thing here. So, I don't really see an issue with it. If you want to continue to play a game like this I see no valid reason to not buy new content.
-
Well I don't think its -blam!-ed up for a few reasons. 1 - TTK is Year Two of Destiny, and the Nightfall should be Part of year 2, not stuck in Year one. Year One players can still play, but they don't have access to Year Two content unless the choose to purchase it, something nobody is forcing on them. 2 - The TTK level cap is 40, having a level 32 nightfall would be silly to me. It has been easy enough as it is in Year One, but keeping the content an appropriate level for Year One players who refuse to continue with the new content would be ruining it for everyone who wants to keep pushing the game farther into Year Two. 3 - If they kept the Nightfall appropriate for Year One, they would need to keep the rewards Year One as well. Thus calling it "nightfall" would have no meaning anymore, since they would have to be making a new harder version for new players anyway. In short, players who don't want to upgrade don't have to, but nothing is messed up about keeping the content oriented towards players who are sticking around with Destiny and pushing it forward with new content and gameplay instead of sitting in the past.

I think anybody who did not buy the expansions is long gone.

8 RepliesDestiny is an fpsrpg, the first of its kind, so let's look at both aspect to discuss how the doc works. Fps- you can only use certain guns, kill streaks, maps, content, with the purchase of dlc. Ie: cod, BF4. Rpg- you can only access new worlds, perks, spells, equipment , with the purchase of new dlc. Ie: wow. So with that in mind, yes you only get the new stuff if you buy the new stuff.
-
Doesn't affect me either as I've preordered ttk, but anyone know if someone bought vanilla destiny at launch and no dlc, with 2.0 do they get tdb and how content for free now?
-
It's a new game essential. We had to buy it to play. Why shouldn't everyone else?
-
7 RepliesSo what's the problem?

I've given up on Bungie, I don't even know why I'm spending money on these pricks anymore.
