Nightfall is now exclusive to ttk purchasers.
If you read the update today, Deej mentioned that you will have to defeat Oryx to access the nightfall.
Assuming this means you have to beat the story missions, if you don't buy TTK you can't do those missions and now an endgame activity is being taken from you. Lol, taken.
I already pre-ordered so this won't affect me, but I can't help thinking this is kinda fkd up.
It's one thing to lock people out if they don't have the dlc for the strike being used for the nightfall on any particular week, but to completely remove this endgame activity from anyone who doesn't buy TTK seems a bit much.
Any thoughts guardians?
Edit: here is the exact quote from the update, right after it talks about the nightfall:

It's official. If you want to reach level 40, you must have TTK. You also must be level 40 to run the nightfall. Nightfall is now officially 100% exclusive to TTK owners.

1 ReplyYou don't need to have TTK to get to level 40? Also, we don't know yet if deej was talking about the first nightfall after TTK. Or all of them moving forward. You need to have access to a strike to play it's nightfall version, that is nothing new. I doubt we won't see any year 1 nightfalls.

1 ReplyYou cant even do NF without TTK anyways because NF will be level 40 and if you dont purchase TTK, your level will be capped at 34 aka Year 1 max level.

Destiny is a ten year game, and is for people who are willing to commit themselves to the game. Really if you play 100% vanilla you shouldnt be playing nightfalls at all by now if you are already stocked on most exotics

This is my biggest problem with TTK. They're treating it as a full retail release, which is fine. The problem is that usually when you buy a new game, YOU CAN STILL PLAY THE OLD ONE! Now, it's completely impossible to play the old one without the new content, and the old one is all but gone to begin with. If the trend continues, nobody will match with you on lfg if you're not lvl 40. So if you don't have TTK, you might as well not have Destiny. There's no story, no endgame content, and a severely broken crucible (lag, overused weapons, and, imo, poorly designed gametypes to begin with). It's understandable why the legendary edition is only worth 60. The other 20 dollars isn't even worth 20 dollars anymore.

You know i like how they have it now at first i was mad you had to buy DLC to play nightfall but now i like it cause if you wanna get the full use of the game you will buy the DLC just like any other MMO

Nightfall is supposed to be the highest difficulty level of strike. The highest difficultly level is attained from the DLC Taken King. You can't reach level 40 without having Taken King. [i]Therefore,[/i] to play the highest difficulty level, you have to have Taken King. Which is why you could buy the Legendary/Collectors edition, that includes vanilla Destiny, The Dark Below, House of Wolves [i]and[/i] The Taken King [i]together.[/i] If you [u]already owned[/u] the other expansions all you had to buy was Taken King. If not, you [i]need[/i] the other expansions (which are streamlined into a better working story now - just ran it all on a new character). It's essentially one story now, not a story with two expansions...

4 RepliesYeah. All endgame is for ttk only. Weekly and even the daily. I have a feeling to do even the daily and up, you'll need new year 2 gear which will have level 40 requirements, non ttk player's can't go above lv 34, so it makes sense. I guess it's simple as this: bungie keeps moving forward, year 2 is like a new destiny and ttk is the entry point into new destiny. Bungie is basically saying, "destiny is a moving train and keeps moving foward, jump on the train or get left behind." I guess I can understand that. In a very very loose comparison, destiny year 1 is like Borderlands 1 and ttk/destiny year 2 is like Borderlands 2. Can't buy Borderlands 1 and expect to play Borderlands 2 content. That's how I look at it. Like I said, not an exact/equal comparison, but that's how I look at it.

The reason for this is that the Nightfall is a difficulty level. Not specific content. I want to play the new strikes and get the new exotics from them. So you probably wouldn't have access to them anyway as they'd mostly be the new ones.
