Obvious reply: Why are you playing a game that is so heavily influenced by MMOs then? With each new addition to the game, Destiny has revealed itself to be more and more influenced by MMOs. Even prior to its release, it was marketed as a shared world experience with co-op gameplay, raids with loot, an endless endgame, and a universe that would constantly be expanding beyond the scope of the first title with the ability to transition your character into new environments with each new piece of content. I read that as an MMO with expansions.
I feel that there won't be a sequel in the traditional sense. Destiny 2 will just be a huge content drop that will expand the story, offer new raids, new vendors, new quest lines, and new abilities. I could be wrong, but I think Bungie had planned to make an MMO all along, but knows that there are players like yourself that think negatively about the genre. So they slowly introduce a bit here, a bit there, and before you know it we have a functioning FPSMMORPG. TTK is pushing the boundary a bit farther, and a lot of players see the direction.
I'm sorry that MMOs are not to your liking, but Destiny might grow into a pretty good one. I had never enjoyed MMOs either, but Destiny is different. Disclaimer: I want matchmaking, a story, more things to do solo, and am not a fan of leaving exotics behind either

They confirmed last year destiny 2 would not work as an expansion unfortunately

Ah, then there goes that theory. I didn't read anything other than Bungie was working on D2.

I haven't been playing much lately. I've moved on to other games. The main reason I made this post was because I feel destiny could be a much better, maybe even amazing game with some tweaks. And I don't think Bungie knows what destiny is yet. Between vanilla and TTK they've changed Destiny each time. Maybe it will eventually morph into a FPSMMORPG, but it's in a weird not really anything place right now. It's NOT an rpg. At least not a good one. It's not an MMO, at least not by most standards. It is a competent FPS, but it wants too much to be an MMO, or RPG to be a fantastic FPS. I'm a RPG player at heart. I love final fantasy, Mass Effect, Borderlands, Crono Trigger. Those kinds of games are my jam. I came to Destiny because i thought it would be much more of an RPG. I didn't know it was trying to be an undercover MMO. I would never have gotten it if I knew that's what it wanted to be. Over time as the MMO parts come out more and more I've come to like Destiny less and less. From all the forum posts I know I'm not the only one. That's why I made the post. Make destiny more Shooter, and more RPG. Loose the MMO parts of it and I'd be a much happier gamer.

I share your love of the classic RPGs, and was hoping the MMOification in year 2 would put Destiny a bit more in line with my own tastes. Enjoy what you're playing, no matter what it is. Cheers.
