You can but thetaken king for 40 dollars now and then they are going to release the class emotes,items,etc later for around 20 dollars so you dont have to buy the digital collectors edition that includes destiny and the other two dlc's if you already have them

But if you want the extra bits that are "preorder" only, don't you have to get the legendary edition?

Nah if you look in the online store for whatever your console is whether its playstation or xbox if you look at what comes with it comes with the suros weapon pack and the early access weapon pack so as long as you preorder any type of the taken king of your choice which could be the standard edition or the digital collectors edition and also any retailer that allows preorder of the taken king you will get the preorder bonuses.

So if I preorder just the $40 taken king download, I will get the Suros and vanguard gear(from preorder) and will later be able to buy the digital items separately,it do I have to wait until a bundle option for them together comes out for $60?

Its up to you entirely but what i am going for is buying taken king standard edition and then buying the 20 dollar bonus due to the fact that i already own both dark below and the house of wolves which is already included in the collectors edition which to me is a waste of money because why would you buy it again? So thats what im doing.
