Change is scary. I also feel like Destiny would lose its value to me if only a certain group of weapons and armor were relevant for the next ten years. Forcing our hands on new things is the best direction to take.

No, it's not. This is a game. I don't give a shit about change. This is about being forced into new weapons while leaving excellent, hard to come by weapons behind. Especially elemental primaries. Bring on the new weapons. Let me choose what I use and how I use it. Why are so many people in this community against having greater options?

I love my elemental primaries and current exotics. I think they have awesome perks and abilities (Love my Fatebringer). If I'm not mistaken, you can still use your current weapons in year two, no? I plan on keeping my raid weapons for use in the older strikes, and even Crucible. All of our weapons will still hold value.

They will hold minimal value. Players aren't going to keep older, weaker gear for patrols. Players will take more powerful gear everyday of the week. With the nerf to all handcannons, it's even less likely people will run Fatebringer in crucible. Vault space is at a premium which also means that people won't keep older, weaker gear when space starts getting low. We aren't being told we can't keep our older gear, we are just being told it will be weaker and Bungie is then hoping the problem just sorts itself out, i.e. we delete the gear. This is about a forced direction. This is about playing how they determine we should. This is about minimal choices. As much as I enjoy this game, I strongly dislike this "square peg in a round hole" philosophy.

I'll definitely agree with you that vault space has to play an important role as to why TTK is going this direction. I want everyone to enjoy this game. Unfortunately, I think it's time to leave the older consoles behind in order to fully utilize the technology we have and hopefully receive mass storage. Lots of MMOs have large inventories right? I'm sure this is on Bungie's mind as much as it is on ours.

People had to know that Xbox 360/PS3 were going to stay relevant for the first few years after the new generation of consoles came out. It's like that every time a new generation of consoles hits the market. I can't really complain about that since that seems reasonable. Most people don't upgrade consoles immediately and Bungie wanted to sell as many copies of Destiny as they could and as they should. If people are ready to move onto the new gear, then they have every right to ditch Year 1 gear and move on. Some of us want the opportunity to incorporate all gear into our loadouts. There are just too few elemental primaries and those primaries are not easy to come by. Like I've said, if the new gear is so good then there should be no fear that players won't migrate to it. Forcing us into the new gear only assures that we won't use anything else because our choice has been made for us. Players won't use weaker gear for harder content simply because they like it better. Also, a lot of people are catching onto the grinding scheme since HoW and they...seem...pissed.
