So I'll start with Cayde 6. Cayde was a legendary Hunter, he was pretty much the best around. His mentor was the the old Hunter Vangaurd (another grizzled legend). He spent his time doing whatever there was wherever the wind would take him. Weather it be dominating the crucible (as per lord Shaxx's dialogue) or planing to to raid the mythical vault of glass to become immortality, Cayde has proven to be the image of an exemplary Hunter. One story depicting his combat skills was when he fought off hordes and hordes of the hive with his only ally being an injured Fallen. He fights them all off (+100s of Hive soldiers) until he runs out of ammo, then his fallen ally betrays him. But Cayde easily disarmed her and killed he with lightning speed. After that he just uses the fallen shock pistol to kill the rest of the hive. PS have you used Dreg's promise? Because it sucks. Now, Cayde begrudgingly resides in the Vanguard honoring his late mentor's post. Ikora Rey Ikora was a young, rebellious warlock with a taste for excitement. Even young she was powerful enough to join the esteemed Titan Holborn's host on Mars, fighting Cabal. If she wasn't vaporizing her enemies by hand she used the exotic shotgun Invective as her weapon of choice. Really falling in line she explored many planets and encountering many different people. One of her encounters with a thief describes her trying to talk him down, but the thief tried to grab her ghost. Ikora then blew him apart with invective. Taking into account the time it takes for a professional thief to take an object and the equip time for invective (even factoring in the QuickDraw mod) one could infer that she has inhuman reaction time. Ikora Rey's powerfulnes even led her to form an elite group of guardian black ops called the Hidden. They are the most powerful and feared extension of the Vangurd even Rivaling Cayde 6's own Shadow Smiths. You could infer that there are the group that fist set into the Hellmouth to kill Crota as per the fact that Eris Morn was a member. Commander Zavala Zavala has always been a by the book militaristic character. Tired and resolute, he oversees the fight on Mars and earth at the same time. He could oversee more, but in-game those are the only ones he references actively. Zavala along with Shaxx used to be apprenticed to lord Saladin, the most powerful Titan in the tower. Though Shaxx and Saladin's relationships are strained, Zavala and Saladin are still close allies. Zavala has been know as a powerful member of the consensus, even keeping an eye on Eris- suspicious of her dark rambling. There is speculation that Zavala is either an honorary member, former member, or active member of the Comorant. Destiny's equivalent of the Knights of Templar. His service record isn't clear, butting is known that he was a defender of the brutal battle of the Twilight gap. And that's practically all the lore for the Vanguard. Now, it's no book but it is something.
