How about a compromise on the Legendary weapons destruction in TTK
If Bungie really wants to "move forward" (lazily sweep gun and perk balancing under the rug, imo) with rendering Legendary weapons useless, why not give all year one players an upgrade material that will allow them to keep one, just one, weapon from year one that will always update to the weapon to the highest damage cap available for the life of the game.
This solution would allow the player to keep their favorite weapon that the acquired from year one usable for the life of the game (for me that's Preadyth's Revenge) to show as a "Badge of Honor" to the kindergardians that show up after the update, and would allow Bungie to push us forward onto the better weapons that they claim to have in store for us. Also, in PvP it would cut down on the number of fatebringers when people choose to keep black hammer, or vice versa and take out a ton of the Legendary's that are considered OP.
This is just my opinion, but honestly, I would rather have this than just a badge and would go a long way, to me, to bridge the gap between the "I want to keep all of my Legendary's" crowd and Bungie's "Hey, thanks for playing this game so much! Now kindly destroy everything you've worked so hard to earn and start over again! Yay! Fun!" mild-slap to the face approach to TTK.
EDIT: Just so it's apparent if it's not, I'm not on board with the change, but if it has to happen, then why can't it happen this way.
