Think of destiny as a walk a 10 mile walk each year is a mile were coming up on mile one and those shoes your wearing are getting worn out and you need new ones(think of the shoes as the legendary items)and you cant keep your old ones so you trade out those old shoes for new and better shoes that youll like even more than your old ones

You replace a pair of shoes because they are worn or damaged. That isn't the case with legendary weapons.
