Painful. At least you now know you can beat him! I actually think had you stayed you'd still have got the light and cores when the first cheat was opened. Sure you'd have to wait until RNG gave you the ship / shader / emblem again (could take a while) but otherwise there is nothing you get from chests you can't get from running level 28. Might be worth running it again just in case even though it shows you beat Skolas it might still give you the loot at the end. They are two separate instances.
