No. This is a story being told from first person perspective. Prequels don't work, unless you start allowing time travel.

  • Destiny is very much telling a story. You may not LIKE how its being told....or UNDERSTAND the story. But the story is very much there. The point is that the narrative Bungie is setting up requires two things: One, a reconstruction of the lost knowledge and lost history of the Golden Age (its why you spent so much time either raiding or protecting "libraries" and "archieves" during the vanilla story missions); Two, resolution of the conflict with the Darkness and its forces invading our Solar System. Prequels only work in stories that are told from a third-person perspective....like the Star Wars movies for example. The writer can put you into "god-like observer" mode....and the jumping around in time is no longer a problem. Prequels don't work in stories that are being told in first-person perspective. Because the whole story hinges on accepting that you are seeing events through one' persons eyes...and real people don't have the ability to hop around in time unless they are actually (in sci-fi mode) actually TIME-TRAVELING, or granted some other supernatural power. FLASHBACKS-----memories, recordings of past events----work. But not prequels, as a means of delivering backstory.

  • It certainly is not telling a story. I could tell you of the great battle etc etc, but I won't. Let's not forget the classic I don't have time to explain why I don't have time to explain. It's not about understanding, it's about it being non existent because of bad and lazy developing

  • 1. Because no accurate historical accounts of what actually took place remain. Just myths and legends. The Speaker won't tell you because one of the story's MAJOR narratives will be you doing thigns that allow that historical record to be reconstructed, and that story finally told. its not going to be given to you coming out of the blocks. 2. Same thing with the Stranger. Who she is, why she is, and where she's from is part of the MYSTERY you are trying to unravel. 3. No. Its just a type of storytelling you are unfamiliar with. Its being rigidly told in first-person (that is you only know those thigns that your Guardian has experienced, or had directly communicated to him) which is unusual. There are two major storylines going on at the same time. The WAR STORY of the conflict between the Light and the Dark, from the perspective of a Guardian who is fighting in those larger-than-life events. Plus MYSTERY TALE of what the Light and hte Dark are.....why they fight....why those who fight for their respective sides do so...and what happened during The Collapse. We are not even one year into story Bungie intends to tell over nine more years. No good book gives everything away in the first chapter.

  • Let's be honest, you love Destiny that is clear by your blind love across the forums. However the story is not something you can defend. It is outright abysmal and that is being kind. You're not convincing anyone defending the story so don't bother

Since we're being honest: 1. Your opinions are not facts. 2. The FACT is that there IS a story, and a clear narrative. One that is proceeding at a very reasonable pace if the goal is a 10 year story arc. What IS debatable is whether the story is being told well....or whether it is the best way to tell the story. I'm not arguing that Bungie is telling the story WELL. I'm arguing against the baseless assertion that "There is no story". Which is as untrue as saying that there are "no guns" in the game. Imo, Bungie is making the mistake of telling a story in a manner best suited to people who are college graduates....when most of their audience and fans are still too young to have graduated to from high school. Few people have the patience to read the Grimoire cards. Fewer people still have the life experience to recognize the themes that Bungie is weaving into it. Moreover, they aren't used to having to actively participate in a storytelling experience like they are being called to do for this game. Which means---since the whole point of storytelling is CLEAR COMMUNICATION----Bungie needs to rethink their approach. Especially where Grimoire cards are concerned. Not being able to access them within the game was a mistake. The community is makingit clear that they'd prefer the information delivered via "cutscences" (dramatized performances of the Grimoire cards is VERY POPULAR YouTube content). ...and requiring people to play parts of the game they don't care for in order to gain access to the "full deck" is also queestionable. I got tired of the gaps in my Grimoire collection...and had to spend an hour looking at YouTube videos and run around dead Ghost hunting. Which to me is tedious.

  • Well... Osiris most likely conquered Time Travel based on the portal underneath the Lighthouse. So that's an easy possibility.

  • See above. Time-traveling would take you back in time as part of the "narrative throughline" of the war story...and could be a means of delivering backstory as well. Not the same as a prequel. Because your Guardian would be a participant in what would be considered "past" events. So events would be "both" past and present. from the perspective of the narrative.

  • Well, I didn't mean to imply the prequel part. Was just pointing out, time travel could be a factor.
