The only elitism it will create will be bad players still trying to hold on to a crutch. They should be easy to identify and thus stay away from.

I actually love the design of the weapon, is by far the most beautiful crafted weapon of the whole game i love it in all its golden glory and baroque swirls, nerf or not it will always remain equipped and used in all my characters.
