Hello,
I personally use DestinyPublicEvents and I never had a problem with it. Looking through Google, that appears to be the only timer on the first page or two.
If it doesn't work, the best thing you could do is just go around on Patrol's and hope to find them.

The only one that always seems to be there is the walker event on the divide, but that would mean 2 events an hour, wich is terribly slow.

Try using the Timer on Mars. I did that.
