What people need to do is experience the games themselves. Even just reading tons of reviews you still won't know what it's like without playing it. Even player reviews are generally biased, especially for over hyped games.
I've read so many reviews on tlou, many were saying it was the best game ever made, my friends all worshipped it. I went out and bought it, and was severely let down when I played it. Maybe it was all the reviews and the hype that I was expecting a god tier game when in reality it seemed like just an okay game. I got bored of it within several hours and never went back to it. All I could think when I played it was "why didn't they just make this a movie?".

The problem, I think, with gaming and in particular gaming websites is that we've taken subjective problems and tried to find objective solution using mob authority. Everyone likes this game, so it has to be a good game, right? Well no, it doesn't need to be a great game according to how that game functions within a technical or literary framework. It just has to appeal to the right set of impulses (see. Destiny.) But we [as in the general conventions of gaming culture] don't recognize that possibility. Its just good or bad as definitively decided by general mood, as if with enough bullshit we can work our way around to an absolute concept of truth (even though we're more likely to find the just-as subjective taste of the common core of humanity.)
