Well that's a problem with a game like this. In Magic the Gathering we called it the power creep. As new iterations of the game are released, the power level needs to be expanded and the bar moved higher to keep the game exciting and interesting. Perceived value is effected, no one but collectors will chase a new gun or piece of armor if an old piece they have is more effective. The difference here is that Wizards of the Coast (Magic's governing body) does not nerf cards when they are amazing. They make enough amazing cards that there are enough different options to pick from. That way, when one strategy actually dominates, it really is a problem, because its made all the other amazing cards weak in comparison. Black Hammer, Ice Breaker, and Gjallahorn do not fit this level of scrutiny because nothing else exists to rival it. So rather than make other, awesome things, or more dynamic fights that require different strategies, Bungie has elected to nerf everything into sameness. This eliminates the feeling of power, or specialness that those weapons held, and will ultimately chase a lot of older players away from the game. Its not a well designed game. Its grindy and repetitive. Making that grind harder is only hurting the game state in the long run. And if they are releasing new alternatives, they should be up to level of the old guard, not nerf the old guard down to their level.

  • Haven't thought about it in that prospective. I agree with you.

  • Yup I agree. They're just working themselves into a deeper hole and mess. They can't fix this downward trend.

  • Absolutely not. Once you establish this trend of breaking everything so it matches everything else, you gain a reputation as bland game. And frankly that's just frightening given that Destiny is already viewed that way. At a time when they are getting a second chance at a first impression for their lapsed players and incoming crew, they took whatever good press they had coming from E3 and Pax and just ruined it between this and the Luke Smith debacle. No one is going to invest time in a game that has a reputation as a schizophrenic, unfun, mindless grindfest.

  • Ya its pretty frustrating. I like the equipment and that's what makes the game so interesting and fun. But they keep messing around with it. I'm so invested now it's hard not to buy TTK, which is sad...
