Science and religion are in no means mutually exclusive to each other, the only time they are;
Is if you take a religion's metaphorical explanation of a certain event as historical fact which is NOT what religion is for.
Religion provides these;
A set of morales, memes an philosophy to live by, a faith system based on a form of a power greater than humanity/ beyond your control, an explanation and hope for what happens to ones sole after their existence in this realm/plane of existence, life comes to an end.
The ONLY time they are at odds is when you take a metaphorical religious passage as pure historical FACT
Example;
God made the earth in 7 days according to book of genesis in the king james bible
Firstly the original holy bible is written in LATIN (if you are roman catholic/ christian)
Hebrew if you are jewish
In the original languages it is worded differently an those words give different meaning to the fact taken out of context
Secondly it could very well be a metaphor a day for god could be a million years for man ect...
Thirdly the facts and trivia and metaphors are not the crucial all important factors of a religion, that role is cast to the belief system and morales of said religion and the stories tales eda an poems in the religion are to reinforce and provide an example of that belief system and morales put into a context that any one can relate to.
Fourthly when you get large factions of people focusing more on the trivia, facts, history, and metaphors and believing them as facts and having actually have happened 100% of the time you end up with a CULT that does bad things, examples;
The witch hunts
The holocaust
Heavens gate
Scientology
I could go on but i think those examples work just fine.

Actually, the Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew and Aramaic. The New Testament was written in koine Greek and the Septuagint, which was later used to make the Latin Vulgate, and then the Latin Vulgate was used to make the European translations.

Sry im not super up on dead languages/bible history, i was referring to the latin one composed by the vatican i think it was council lead by saint constantine. But still my point is relevant, a lot is lost/ misconstrued in translation. For instance Lucifer referring to the day star or day bringer aka the planet venus and not the devil is still one of the hottest debated topics attributed to translation error or misconception Also in king james bible satan is never referred to as lucifer directly.

Edited by SSG ACM: 7/20/2015 6:13:47 PMThat's why we read all the translations and seek to determine which is most accurate to the original manuscripts. I don't particularly favor the KJV since it was mostly translated for the sake of appeasing King James (hence the name); however, it was one of the best translations in English since it was the only one translated for the English. I'm aware of the fact that it's been reconstructed for over 200 times, and therefore, I'm not an advocate of such a copy, but I do read the text, and I'm grateful for the fact that the original translators italicized all the words that the word-to-word translators couldn't transcribe to the English language from the original texts (that's also the reason they're are multiple translations). Today, I would promote the ESV and the NASB (the NASB is a bit stilted) since they're the closest to the original.

Right but in USA at least especially in the evangelical and baptist churches (not even gonna touch mormon or Jehovah's witness) most of the population does not get that in-depth into bible study. Which is one of the main factors of the baptist organization: The Watchtower, was originally set up to address

Most do not because of the boredom that it adopts, but whenever anything appears to be confusing or controversial, those significant few seek the original translation as it was implied and in the context that it was currently used in.

That is true, im just saying that often the findings of those who do the research arent spread out with enough awareness amongst the populous is all im saying Take the term lucifer for example; Most think its a name for the devil THE ONLY TIME it is used in the bible is to describe a fallen angel called "day bringer" and refers to the celestial object Venus and has NOTHING to do with the devil aka satan
