I would imagine two things happened/happening: A) The CEO doesn't know when Summer ends (It ends August 1st) and thought that Sept 19th (TTK release date) falls in that window, and B) Bungie will probably begin the Hypetrain for TTK with Public Events involving the Taken throughout the Planets this summer proceeding the release.

  • The seasons are a celestial thing, not a set date. The seasons follow the equinox/solstices. When the sun hits the lowest or highest points in relation to the equator, and when the sun is lined up with the equator.

  • Technically the summer season doesn't end until sept 25 (or was it 24th)

  • Went by Wikipedia for my original comment. Astronomical summer ends in the northern hemisphere on 9/22 apparently.
