I really like this.
This really forces developers to step up their game when making new version of their product. Instead of the repetitive garbage we get for Call of Duty (basically 70$ for 10 new maps each year) they may actually make a good new version some day!
Not good enough, stay with the old version.
Bravo Microsoft.

This won't inspire game developers to step up their game. Funding independent new companies and indie genres might though, make the gamer find a new strong genre and the others will step up

Maybe. Would you buy Game B to replace Game A, for 70$, if all it have you was 10 more maps, two hours of story and the same guns?

Call of duty isn't the only game to do this, it's a franchise and all franchises keep core mechanics the same and change minimal amounts of the game content to keep people coming back

Yes, I know! That's my whole point! If we can buy new consoles and still play out old games until game developers give us something worth buying they will be forced to give us better products.

But by playing the old ones the data will show that a large population likes that type of game leading to more of them, which millions and millions will buy
