You sound like a good friend and thats exactly what he needs. I lost my mom to ovarian cancer 7 years ago and my friends were there for me the whole time. Its really special to have those good people around, even if its just through a video game. All that you can do is be there for him through this tough time.

ugh, -blam!-ing cancer. My fiancé lost her mum 2 years ago to breast cancer. getting married with no mums around is really quite rough
