This is nothing new, MMOs are based on this and their replayability is a function of this, it makes grinding less grindy, repetitive actions more rewarding and the overall structure of the game more engaging, especially because of social pressures (i.e. everyone including your friends are doing it). But Destiny is not as bas as other MMO skinner box games, i mean look at Star Wars: The Old Republic

lol SWTOR blows destiny out of the water son, I'd switch in a heartbeat if I didn't have a beater for a computer only one it runs fine on is my old core 2 duo with a dedicated gpu.

I was referring to the Skinner box and shameless exploration aspects.

Pretty small game for an MMO. A lot less content too. Even if you play Destiny, enjoy Destiny, and are not bothered by the conditioning techniques, you should at least understand how they work. It's good to take a step back and look at the overall picture now and then.

You said we were being brainwashed. If you cared at all about accuracy and understanding of the psychological processes at work, you'd know that is complete bullshit. Brainwashing and conditioning are not the same thing. This is clickbait nonsense. It is bad and you should feel bad.

Conditioning can be a synonym of brainwashing. But you are right, this isn't brainwashing by any means. With brainwashing, the subject isn't left a choice. The conditioning usually occurs after the subject has been brain washed. But Destiny does develop operant conditioning. We are subject to rewards that are reinforced and punished (I.E. you can beat Crota and get a black hammer and a gjallahorn or you can beat Crota and get 2 radiant shards - the reward can be reinforced with wanted items or punished with unneeded items).

Catchy title = replies. Do you honestly think the majority of this forum understands the concept of conditioning?

Edited by TheMalevolence: 7/4/2015 10:46:43 PMI didnt know brainwashing had its own field of study seperate from conditioning. I alwaya figured brainwashing was a slamg term for altering the mind("washing" the brain), which could include mind control and/or conditioning.. Maybe we should call it Braingrooming.

I agree on these points, I merely wanted to blunt any overall overkill messages that try and blame bungie as the source of this methodology as there has been alot of unnecessary bungie hate lately over minor things.

As stated in the video, Destiny does many things very well. There are flaws as well. This post is not meant to demonize, but to educate.
