Off to a good start. As you go further, work on consistent line weights. Achieve this and your drawings will 'pop' much more, assuming you've done it right. Lines that recede in space get thinner, and vise versa.

Yeah it's a common technique that separates the hobbyist from the pro. It's great for creating the perspective needed to pull off the perceived 3rd axis, since you really only work with two to begin with. But yeah you got the right idea, Bolder and sharper lines are in the foreground, whereas thinner lines are in the background. You can find nice pencil sets that give you a nice scale of lead, like B, 2B, 3B, and up to 8B, which is like charcoal pretty much. You can still create the illusion of space with just one lead type though, you just have to be aware of the pressure your applying as you draw. 4 years into a Media Arts & Animation degree, I took a lot of drawing courses in the first two years lol.
