The difference is that's not representative of how the majority of the nation feels. The majority of Southerners did feel that blacks needed to stay slaves because they were inferior. I agree that America does not have a great past when it comes to racial equality, but it least it's not a country based on oppressing one race.

This country was practically built on oppressing one race. But to further your own point: the flag hasn't been a symbol of racism for a long time now by those who use it. So why do some people have sticks up their asses about it?

What do you mean it's not a sign of racism? I live in the south and to me it's highly symbolic of racism.

You don't use the flag. To most of them, it's state pride. I live in the North (barely), it's not a symbol of racism to me.
