  • That's not so bad. It all depends on the beliefs of the religion. I don't think it's a coincidence that some of the worst countries in the world to live in for crimes against humanity are Islamic countries while most of the best countries to live in are Christian/Buddhist.

  • Some of the best countries to live in are atheist majorities. Some of the worst are those motivated by religions.

  • And all those countries have Christianity or Buddhism as their prominent religion. Still no Islam to be seen.

  • Your point is that Islam is bad and Christianity and Buddhism is not? Christianity and Islam both tell their followers to do things in the name of something that does not exist. It does not matter how bad or good it is, they still believe in a god. Buddhism is not a religion, it is a world view.

  • Buddhism still believes in fake things such as the soul and reincarnation. The story of the original Buddha also has a bunch of fake shit like the Buddha being born from his mothers side and a bunch of lotus flowers magically bloom all round. Or how a bunch of evil spirits attacked the Buddha but he called the earth to witness. My point is that none of the other religions are as bad as Islam. To argue that religion itself is somehow bad seems shortsighted and ignorant to its roles in both history and the present.

Both are abrahamic religions with their roots coming from Ur with the founder Abraham. Although, Abraham was thought to have lived 1600 BCE or 3600 years ago.

  • Isn't Abraham more centered in Judaism ? Im not sure i haven't really learned much about Judaism And I believe Christianity is centered on Jesus where as islam is focused on Muhammad while acknowledging Jesus and Abraham

  • They are all focused around God (Different names for each one). For Islam, they believe Jesus and Muhammad to be prophets serving Allah. Christianity believes in the holy trinity (one God in three persons) with Jesus as one of those three. Judaism believes in the Torah (Old testament in Christian Bible). Though they believe their gods are different, they all believe their religion descended from Abraham.

  • The three Abrahamic religions are: Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. All three converge on him and then separate from there. https://www.google.com/search?q=abrahamic+religions&rlz=1CAACAC_enUS627US628&oq=abrahamic+religions&aqs=chrome..69i57.3485j0j9&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=122&ie=UTF-8

  • Wrong assumptions, buddy. I'm not angry just distressed with seeing things and posts like this. Have you ever had the feeling where you know you're right but you can't explain why to someone without 'offending' them?

  • Religion is a tradition of the parents spreading the beliefs they were taught as a kid. They only do as their parents did and it continued and still continues today.

  • My parents and sister are Methodist. I used to be up until 3 years ago where I started to realize what I believed in was not the same as what my family believed in. There was a transition between Methodist and atheist. If you pointed at one specific time during the transition, I would not be able to say atheist or Methodist only. Now, I am simply an atheist because I merely see no proof presented that any God exists, not just of the Christian God, but of any divine, supernatural, or spiritual person or figure. If demonstrable evidence is provided, I would convert.

  • Ok, but I could say the same about the alternative, of evolution and the ideas of how the universe formed, no irrefutable evidence has been brought forward. Personally, I'd rather believe that I was created and have a purpose rather than that I am related to an amoeba that crawled out of the primordial ooze. It's life's biggest gamble, and your side has nothing to gain, but everything to lose. If you're right and I'm wrong, l missed out on a few opportunities for pleasure. If I'm right, and there is a God, then you wasted you're eternity

  • redBeckum answered your first paragraph. For your second paragraph, I can relate, but only because I am human. Humans and animals want to have a purpose or be part of something greater. As a result of humans having intellectuality, we try to put purpose on things that do not have a purpose, such as the universe. The universe just is and it does not need a purpose to exist. For your last paragraph, that is Pascal's wager. Often people that use Pascal's wager believe it is between two parties: the believer and the nonbeliever. However, it is between the believer, the nonbeliever, and thousands of other religions available that will claim their side of the Pascal's wager as the correct one and the other side as everyone else. It is less of a seesaw and more of a plate balancing on a point.
