Do all raids on normal and hard. Do nightfall, and stop thinking about getting one.
It sounds like a joke, but you'll be less frustrated when you stop focusing on it dropping.

No It needs to be normal THEN hard. Normal + hard = a chance on each Hard first = only chance

You're right you really don't. People drop exotics back to back in raids and are completely unaware that it is actually possible.

Yeah no it's cool apparently I'm a -blam!-ing idiot and now I can stop -blam!-ing with my Titan. I'll just run 2 nightfall and 4 VOG and crota.

You get rewarded for both. Only gorgon chest and ir yut are one reward only

Gorgon is 2 rewards. If you do normal first Ir yut is only once though

Nightfall x3 = 3 chances VoG normal x3 = 6 chances (gorgon and Atheon) VoG hard x3 = 6 chances (gorgon and Atheon) Crota normal x3 = 6 chances (deathsinger and Crota) Crota hard x3 = 3 chances (Crota) If you do hard first you don't get drops on normal because you get two drops at each checkpoint however that means less shots at exotics and more shots for raid gear/weapons. If you do normal first you can still get drops on hard.
