But why? Gears as a series was "Waiting on Halo 3: The Game" until CoD dethroned Halo as the most popular FPS. I just don't understand what place Gears could possibly hold in a world where yearly releases of a "new" popular shooter exist.

Seriously? Is this post serious, or is it satire?

I'm being totally realistic. I remember GoW as being the game that you played while you waited for the launch of Halo 3. Did people actually enjoy it enough to warrant a sequel a decade later?
-
Nope. You're right, and I'm being delusional. There was actually no one that enjoyed the Gears franchise, and everyone saw it as filler. So much so, that because it was in the top 10 XBL games for years, it was only because bots were playing. So much so, Microsoft decided to create Black Tusk into Coalition so they could pump out a Gears game and burn their money. The game was so incredibly unpopular, it was actually a shitty TPS game. Gears of War was not enjoyed by anyone because of its outstanding graphics, great gameplay or great online. Everyone was too busy foaming at the mouth for Halo 3. Like... seriously?

Last I checked, GoW was dead since 2011 except for Judgement which absolutely tanked in terms of performance and sales. Maybe I'm the asshole here, but that to me doesn't spell "award winning franchise".
