It depends on the type of poetry you are looking to do. But a key piece to all poetry is a rhythmic mannerism. I also suggest looking into increasing your vocabulary, since it will greatly improve the work. Choose words carefully, as they will help define the work. For example, instead of dark or horrible, you could you Stygiant as a replacing word.
