Just thought a theory of why there were flashbacks.
Fallout fans know some vaults were also social experiments, eg there is a vault with all women and one man, the is another vault vice versa.
It is possible that vault 111 experimented with Cryogenic sleep and these flashbacks are literal flashbacks from the lone wanderer.
