This is taken from the Bungie Weekly Update, 17th of October, 2014 (The one about the Auto rifle nerfs and various other tweaks)
"According to the notes we published, our work may have resulted in either a slight increase or decrease in the deadliness of your go-to weapon. It’s a safe bet that you’re wondering why. We understand that curiosity.
Let’s talk about why we do these things. I’ve talked to a lot of our developers about the update that went live. The main theme that emerged from every conversation can be summarized like this:
“There should be no single answer for how to win in Destiny.”
...
Balance is not about everyone being equal, but rather that not everybody is doing the exact same thing. If everyone is doing the same exact thing, something is not balanced. Everybody is trying to pursue the same unbalanced thing. "
I would love some discussion as opposed to salty memes and dank Thorn using dissenters.

3 RepliesEdited by GraciousEel761: 6/6/2015 12:53:43 AMI don't always die in Crucible, but when I do, it's Blink Shotgun, or Thorn. Not really, but both those are really powerful. Also, Felwinters Lie and its clones. Very powerful shotguns. Everyone (including me) uses them. Maybe Destiny is unbalanced.

Edited by GuyFamily999: 6/6/2015 1:29:38 AMTimurs lash, Ill will, etc. : Low RoF, maximum impact for hand cannon class (damage per shot). Takes 3 headshots to kill. Thorn: Very high RoF, overall amazing stats. Takes 3 BODYSHOTS to kill, while delaying health regeneration and enabling wallhacks for cover based engagements. Nerf the thorn, and make some tweaks to a handful of other weapons. Then buff autos. I think primaries in crucible would be balanced then. Hand cannons are actually really balanced, it just mainly the thorn, them last word to a lesser extent, then hawkmoon to a lesser extent.

5 RepliesI just got thorn and refuse to use it in PVP so I'm not that guy
-
TLW still outguns thorn every single day

4 RepliesBeen playing iron banner all week, and thorn honestly hasn't been used significantly more than any other gun. Shotgun blinkers and snipers are way more prevalent than thorn. Yes it's a powerful weapon. It's one of the harder quests in the game to complete. It's exotic. It should be great. I think if bungie were to slightly reduce the range of thorn the gun would be perfectly balanced. Let's face it, thorn shouldn't have the same effective range as scout rifles. That's really the only aspect that is overpowered about the gun, in my opinion.

2 RepliesReplace ''Thorn'' in this thread's title with ''Gjallarhorn'' and you get a shocking truth. #justsayin'

2 RepliesBUNGIE JUST GOT REKT
-
Thorn whores.
-
3 RepliesStfu and stop whining about weapons, you can use the same ones as the next guy you moron.
-
I'm not great at pvp but I rarely get stuck by thorn. I have it but prefer tlw over thorn. Now that gun is amazing.
-
It will be sad if they nerf thorn and do not buff ARs.
-
3 RepliesI have to agree with you on this and feel eventually Thorn will get a "re-balance" of some sort. Unfortunately they're are too many people on here who's KD will plummet once it is rebalance and they will have to learn to "get gud" as they say
-
It's only annoying when the whole other team is using it and just spraying down a hallway haha

1 ReplyThorn should be nerfed because it causes lingering damage at a very slow rate, This causes very unbalanced gameplay. If you shoot me with thorn I can't regen shields cause I'm dealing with burn, so I'm open to be rushed and killed. If you don't play agressive and wait back you still have a chance to kill, but this side of the mechanic is promoting a boring aspect of gameplay. One where your hiding and waiting till I'm even more weak then trying to tag me again to clean up. On top of that it's a 2 shot to the head and landing crits in this game isn't very hard, compared to every over primary it's massively at an advantage. I don't know how I would nerf or deal with the situation which is thorn, but something needs to be done to rebalance things in pvp. Because it's boring and it's getting so old after iron banner I'll probably stop playing because of it. BTW I have a 1.5 kd in crucible and over a 2.0 in trials I'm an above average player, So don't blab about me being bad cause I simply am not gonna listen, So you'll be wasting your time.

My argument aswell, I hate how the crucible has essentially become a one gun game.

Implying Bungie cares.

Edited by Seraph Kupo: 6/6/2015 8:00:36 AMExotic hand cannons are the goto now and shottys

You obviously don't have a 365 Vestian Dynasty. Thorn is my secondary now.

Edited by Relict Fox: 6/6/2015 8:06:51 AMThe main thing that I don't think alot of people realize is that this game is also an rpg, not just an fps. In an rpg that has pvp, usually mmo rpgs, there is always a class ability /weapon combo or just weapon that ends up being the best thing to use. People will always migrate toward the easiest class/weapon combo to get ahead of the other players in games like this. I'm not saying they shouldn't take a look at thorn, but that in a rpg there are going to be imbalances that need to be fixed and not a single company gas struck that perfect balance yet. There are other weapon set ups that work better than thorn, the main problem is that thorn is a weapon that won't make the bad players gods, but thorn by itself will make them average at the very least. Now the people that wreck with thorn aren't using it as a crutch, it's giving these already amazing players an edge with the fact that it's an amazing weapon. People also have different views on distances as well. For me there are 3 ranges, short, mid, and long each with 3 ranges in them. Short short, mid short, long short. Short mid, mid mid, long mid. Short long mid long and long long. We all have different views on what we consider sniping range for Thorn and alot don't agree on the range weapons damage drops off, but from what I've taken from alot of people's posts is that they have a very strange idea on distance. Yes thorn definitely does have too much power at actual sniping ranges but there are other guns that have short range stat that people think should do less at long range, which they do, that have a view on long range that is shorter than what actually is destiny's long range. Most maps play at long mid at there longest distance areas that people run to and the damage drop off is minimal.

2 RepliesThorn isn't that OP tbh, hand cannons in general just have way to much range.
-
-
2 shot + higher rate of fire + dot damage to tell you where someone is + sniper range + it -blam!-s the other persons screen is why I use it and anyone who has one also uses it. The only thing that I've seen beat it is a skilled last word user.

1 ReplyReduce the magazine to 6 and replace final round with something else. Boom, problem solved. Someone will still find a reason to bitch about it however.
-
1 Replyauto rifles have already been destroyed and now you idiots want to do the same to hand cannons you crybabies are gonna destroy this game

8 RepliesEdited by TimboLextown: 6/6/2015 2:33:49 AMDiversity is seriously lacking. They need to buff auto and fusion rifles back to where they were. The only guns people use in Crucible anymore are shotguns, Thorn, TLW, Vex and Red Death. But mostly just Thorn and a shotgun.
