This is taken from the Bungie Weekly Update, 17th of October, 2014 (The one about the Auto rifle nerfs and various other tweaks)
"According to the notes we published, our work may have resulted in either a slight increase or decrease in the deadliness of your go-to weapon. It’s a safe bet that you’re wondering why. We understand that curiosity.
Let’s talk about why we do these things. I’ve talked to a lot of our developers about the update that went live. The main theme that emerged from every conversation can be summarized like this:
“There should be no single answer for how to win in Destiny.”
...
Balance is not about everyone being equal, but rather that not everybody is doing the exact same thing. If everyone is doing the same exact thing, something is not balanced. Everybody is trying to pursue the same unbalanced thing. "
I would love some discussion as opposed to salty memes and dank Thorn using dissenters.

8 RepliesIf they wanted it to be like halo they would simply ban all exotics from the crucible. They don't want balance, you are supposed to get an advantage from grinding for the best guns. If everyone could compete on the same level from the start what would the point of the grind for gear be?

Edited by Spaceman: 6/10/2015 11:36:51 PMI hate to say it... but there are equal and better weapons out there than the Thorn. Okay, so say we nerf the Thorn... then what is to become on TLW, Vex, Hawkmoon? Let's say we nerf those... then what will become of Red Death? Shotguns? Fusions? No offense, but it's a vicious circle of trends for the easiest and most efficient kill. The next gun in line will be the next trend. The problem is NOT with the weapons. The problem lies with the lack of defense. We need more shied and health. Right now it's at about 200 points... buff that baby to 250, 300... even 400. There needs to be reaction time to defend yourself... time for gun battles... time to counter or hide. To offset this change, perhaps slow down the shield regeneration time. All this would make for amazing fun battles... with strategic gameplay and tactics being the deciding factor. Not the one guy who is a Vex Mythoclast Lord and kill hoards for 30+. It's just obvious. If you are looking for the balancing of weapons, you'll be looking for the rest of your life. Let's try something else. I have no problem with small nerfs/buffs occasionally... but first we need to fix shield/health... and bring back the fun.

I have thorn. The Messenger is my preference though

4 RepliesJust wrecked at least 20 thorn users today in crucible with a lvl 89 auto rifle on my lvl 11 warlock, skill>thorn (or any other gun)
-
3 RepliesOkay, here's my opinion on thorn(this also kind of goes to last word). They are OP, not necessarily in strength, but the range is the problem(stay with me guys). How many times have you been 1v1 and using a strong red scout or pulse rifle from 50 yards and you don't miss a shot yet the thorn user kills you first? That's the problem. Let's say the battle is 10 feet, same weapons, obviously the HC should win. Then we compare it to another primary, an AR... Lol you already know who wins that, but that's the nerfing to oblivion issue, not the OP handcannon problem. So here's my point, want a nerf? Sure, nerf it, but just slightly on range or something. At the end of the day it's an EXOTIC that is, lets be honest here, a pvp weapon so it should be strong. With that said, I hate the thorn with a passion, but i hate it because of lack of diversity... I will use it depending on certain factors (map, character, enemy) But typically only in ToO or IB where playing well is "rewarded." So if you use the thorn, use it in ToO or IB, but give regular crucible some diversity guys, it doesn't matter there. Do you really want to ONLY play with one gun your whole destiny career?

Ohhh nice!

1 ReplyTheres a difference between op and overused. Thorn is definitely overused.

4 RepliesWe both lie silently still in the dead of the night Although we both lie close together we feel miles apart inside Was it something I said or something I did? Did my words not come out right? Though I tried not to hurt you Though I tried But I guess that's why they say Every rose has its thorn Just like every night has its dawn Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song Every rose has its thorn Yeah it does I listen to our favorite song playing on the radio Hear the DJ say love's a game of easy come and easy go But I wonder does he know? Has he ever felt like this? And I know that you'd be here right now If I could have let you know somehow I guess Every rose has its thorn Just like every night has its dawn Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song Every rose has its thorn Though it's been a while now I can still feel so much pain Like a knife that cuts you the wound heals But the scar, that scar remains I know I could have saved a love that night if I'd known what to say Instead of makin' love we both made our separate ways And now I hear you found somebody new And that I never meant that much to you To hear that tears me up inside And to see you cuts me like a knife I guess Every rose has its thorn Just like every night has its dawn Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song Every rose has its thorn

1 Reply"There should be no single way to win things" yet they make ghorn

As much as people will defend it there is a reason thorn is one if not the most popular fun weapon in the crucible. Especially when it comes to competitive play. I usually see thorns or TLW. People who want to do well don't flock to shitty weapons.
-
1 ReplyGit Gud Or Git Rekt Scrub
-
The problem with Thorn is that auto rifles are useless. If they re buff auto rifles, this will be the closest to balanced as the game has been.
-
16 RepliesI don't have a dog in this fight, but I would like to note that the forums asked bungie to buff the thorn in the first place... Anyone remember this...
-
If the person on the other end of the thorn is skilled enough, they will get out of the way. The reason so many people get killed by it is because most people who play destiny PVP don't pay enough attention to their surroundings.
-
I don't recall anyone complaining about weapons until Bungie started rebalancing everything. The decision makers for this game are true assholes. Their mindset was basically "you're not doing what we want you to do, even though we told you its totally cool to do it however you want, so now we're changing stuff all around so you have to do what we want." And to think this is the same developer that gave you Forge to build your own maps and gametypes, as well as seemed to thrive on pure pvp chaos with game modes like Big Team Heavy.
-
1 ReplyThe issue really is that guardians bring their own gear. Every class of gun has its top gun. People find the only way to have fun in crucible is to win. Therefore they will use the most OP gun to ensure this. The problem with a game like this is that if one OP gun gets nerfed then people just move onto the next best thing. Suros used to rule, it got nerfed, people found thorn worked as well so they moved onto that. Nerf Thorn and we'll just have everyone move to the next gun
-
1 ReplyThorn is not the only way to win in Destiny, it's just the most popular. Everyone talks about how OP it is, which makes everyone else think it's OP, even if it isn't, and so everyone else's uses Thorn thinking it will guarantee them victories. Spoiler alert, it doesn't.
-
Personally, I don't think Thorn is OP. Is it a great weapon? Sure. I think everybody is using it because they hear it's OP and that means more people are getting killed by it which makes everybody think it's OP. Rinse, repeat. Going by bungie's reasoning, the Thorn should get a nerf and ARs should get a buff. Not much of either but enough to make less people use one and more use the other. I really don't care. I'm not real concerned about what kit other people are using. I play with what I enjoy.

10 RepliesPocket Infinity > Thorn Pocket Infinity burns down the competition all the way to the lighthouse
-
Make the fire rate slightly better than Ill Will.
-
5 RepliesFire rate on it should be reduced and the stability should be made terrible, like almost none so the recoil makes it so you can't get two quick, easy headshots. You could sacrifice Send It for Perfect Balance and make the recoil slightly more manageable.
-
23 RepliesYou and people like you will always have a gripe about the flavor-of-the-month gun. If not Thorn, then Red Death, Hawkmoon, TLW, Mythoclast, Suros.. Y'all need to accept the fact some guns are better than others, and some people use them better than others. Get one yourself and use it or STFU.
-
2 RepliesLock all gear and abilities out of crucible and give everyone a white hand canon and 1 grenade and have to find other weapons throughout the map
-
Just leave it like that and raise the damage from all the weapons except thorn. I know thorn is anoying, but the best way to play against it a shotgun to the face! And run as soon as you feel the burn just run dont try to fight them head to head at medium to long range...
-
I want pre-buff six round thorn back.
-
3 Repliesyou forgot this: Exotics Exotic Weapons are designed to look, feel, and sound overpowered. At the same time, they are not supposed to break the balance of the game. We hope these weapons challenge the way players think about their loadouts. Exotics will be a constant work in-progress! Looking at this, thorn seems to be working as intended... foces you to think about your loadout, change a bit your game style... but break the balance? Only it you're too proud to take cover...
