Communism/socialism isn't inherently bad. They focus on the well being of the populace, or at least that was their intention. The brand of fascism was placed upon the Soviet Union during the cold war and indeed it had become an oppressive system, but that is not the nature or meaning of socialism.
Even today as much of the world claims to be free and operates under capitalism (which isn't inherently bad either) many countries have fallen victim to corporate oligarchs and corrupt politicians. The problem isn't these systems.(or the many other forms of government ) the problem is human nature itself and the greed that resides in all people(some considerably more than others) Some feel that they are above others and deserve more than their fellow man or woman. Almost all forms initially have the best of intentions in the beginning but given enough time degrade into plutocracy.
The same could be said for capitalism. We just have better PR guys plain and simple. Depending on where you live and where you went to school each system feeds their citizens propaganda on the other. During the cold war US says communism is bad and the USSR said capitalism is bad.
Communism is the polar opposite of facism. It was invented by Lenin to combat facism. Republicans are the closest American group to facism. Do you even politics bro?
