You mean forced matchmaking (which I admit is the only possible type in this game) rather than optional. I am just dreading one day Bungie adding matchmaking to "story missions". That will be the day I quit playing.
Yes, because there's nothing quite like playing the same short redundant "story" mission for the 3rd + time by yourself, with nothing new to experience, that adding optional mm would ruin that experience. (....)? If you don't want to be MM, you can opt out (optional).
Everyone hates building a 2nd and 3rd character levels 1-20 precisely because of the fact that it's not a good story. Many more would make more characters and play more often if option to find people to run thru it existed.
Just get optional out of your mind; it is quite obvious that it will/can never happen*. Forced matchmaking in Daily Heroic (or even "regular" to do bounties) means people will not be able to go at their own pace, whether that pace be race through or kill everything. So, again, the day Bungie adds forced matchmaking to "story missions" is the day I quit. There are areas that most people want to solo, and forced matchmaking will kill that. Optional will never happen (in any mode of the game); believing it will is just a fantasy.
*since everytime the subject comes up they pretend that they don't know what optional means...
