They admitted to lacking but still dominates. Lost title always. And the gaming industry seems to be in a low anyhow. So blame the developers

  • Gaming industry at a low??? Are you smoking crack?? It has never been higher! Makes more money than movies/ music industry (maybe combined) only entertainment that still make more money is sport but with esports, give 10years & will dominating that too!

  • There are a fair amount of huge triple A games, but we have been lacking in quantity since the late '90s. Each console generation has had considerably less games than its forebear. While it's true that many of those games were so-so, we did have more top tier games as well. These days games have budgets that read like Hollywood blockbusters, take hundreds of people to make, are leashed to publishers who from the bill and often fall short by being rushed through the latter stages of development. That said, if a movie cost 50 million to make, we are ok with it being 2 hours long and paying up to $20 to see it once (depending on where you live). Whereas a game with a similar budget costs 3-5 times more, but we expect it to entertain us for hundreds of hours. 25 years ago, games were about $10 cheaper on average, but a long RPG type game might last you 20-30 hours at best. Most action games were over in an hour or three. Co-op and multiplayer was restricted to fighting games and split screen games. We are enjoying a real stove golden age of gaming that is beginning to struggle with its content. It'll likely get back on track eventually, but we will likely need to lower our lofty expectations, realizing that publishers are going to promise the world and we are still only going to get a game. 2014 was year of tech demos and games throttled by last gen, 2015 is starting to get some games that feel truly next gen. I'm guessing we will start seeing the real works of art in 2016 and later. Games have always looked better and better the further you get into a console's life span, though many have argued that the current gen are just cheap, off-the-shelf gaming PCs. Which is essentially true, but they can still be optimized for as any previous console. That said, multi-platform games always suffer a lack of optimization. That's why The Last Of Us looked amazing on the PS3 (and not much better on the PS4), where as Dragon Age : Inquisition and Witcher 3 look comparatively poor on the PS4/XB1 versus the PC. It's really up to the devs to devote the time required to optimizing for each console or deciding to do an exclusive. Regardless, things are looking better and better and I have a feeling we're in for a pretty impressive lineup in 2016.
