The game is built around longevity and it's obviously working. That's it. No conspiracy involved. You'd rather play it, shelve it, and be done? At least they are giving you reasons to keep playing.

  • Turns out it is fact that they used behavioral psychology to form this game to cause people to always be itching to run back. It has artificial longetitivity, nothing more.

  • There's no such thing as "artificial longevity." It's a fun game, that's why people keep playing. All games are repetitive. If they are fun, you keep playing. Destiny has a weekly reset and has already had two expansions. There's nothing artificial about that. Enough of your armchair psychology.

  • Lol have you ever heard of filler content? There is very much such a thing, how you can pretend there isn't is insane.

  • Content is still content. If you keep playing it, it's still content. All games are repetitive. If you keep playing them, they have longevity. There's nothing artificial about it.

  • Name one other game that makes you run the same handful of missions literally hundreds of times? Even other mmos have more variety than that. And multiplayer doesn't count, nobody is complaining about repeating crucible maps, that's obvious. Your logic and argument is so flawed and has nothing backing it up.

  • Destiny doesn't make you do anything. You make the decision to play it over again. And you are the one with flawed logic. If you played Halo (excluding PvP like you said) for 500 hours, you would have repeated the same missions 1000 times. And that would be with no weekly resets or gear to unlock and level up.

  • But nobody would do that because that isn't the point of the game. You don't get anything for it. The point of Destiny is to repeat the same content over and over. It "makes" you in the sense that there's nothing else to do You repeat the same content or don't play at all. This is a game that has content of a one and done game with maybe a new game plus (higher difficulties and you expect the same content), with features of a much larger and fleshed out title. The reward system is not equal to the content. You play through halo, play it on legendary, achievements, maybe find skulls. Maybe a few years later you'll go back because the story is cool and exciting. Let's not talk about how Destiny doesn't even have an exciting story. If halos campaign had rpg elements, random gun drops, and an actual multiplayer economy, it would be just as stupid. And that's how this game was built. I don't mind the concept of daily story missions and weeklys, I think it's cool. But that's all this game has to offer. Now hear me out on the next part. I understand the dlc was only 15 bucks. But it was a bite size of new stuff (that I love, not the point). It added one strike, and like 5 missions, and POE. (Ignoring mp). Is it cool additions, yes. Now comet might be the influx of huge content this game needs. But think of it in this mindset. You played the same level 100 times or more to get one gun. You get that gun, to play the same level 100 more times. That's like if you had to beat the entire halo campaign 100 times before unlocking the halo one pistol. Is it really worth it, regardless of how good the game is? No. Are people going to want to do it? Obviously. But this game has used behavioral psychology to weasel itself into you and make you do exactly that, and think it's okay. In other games, I play through, get a cool weapon, and use it on new enemies. I don't go back to the first level. And don't say other games have less playtime because of it, the strikes are 10-15 minutes. Raids are an hour. Story we will give it 6 hours. There are what 8 strikes on Xbox, 10 on ps. Hour and a half of content, even give it 2 hours to be nice. 2 hours for raids. 6 hours for story. Horde mode is just impossible to calculate because it's horde mode. 10 hours of actual legitimate PvE content. Double those numbers for fun. 20 hours? How long did you play skyrim, fallout, mass effect, witcher, dark souls (even excluding deaths), borderlands, whatever mmo you are into for without doing the same exact mission 100 times?

  • I fully agree with you mate, this other person is clearly blinded if he can't see destiny is the same stuff over and over and over again. I'm sure plenty of other people also agree. I used to love this game, it had me hooked, however the grind got too much for me and I can't even be bothered to play the HoW. I'm currently enjoying neverwinter.

  • If your a mmorpg fan then you'll like it, it's free and you can actually progress through the game without spending money on micro transactions. The graphics aren't the best but it's good fun.

  • Is it something you can solo run through (at least somewhat), and if not is it easy to get people? Honestly my biggest issue with these games is finding the people to play with.

  • Yeah you can get to level 60 solo, especially if your a dps, tank and healers not so fun by yourself. But there's always people looking to group up. Once you get to the endgame content you really need a group otherwise people kick your for friends.

You said it all when you said "you play it over and over or you stop." You just described every game ever. You could play Destiny through the story and VoG and then stop, but you keep playing. Why? Because it's fun. Your argument is basically that Destiny is bad because it encourages more play time. You are arguing with yourself. Most of the games you mentioned can be beaten in 20 hours as well. But I doubt you could even make it to VoG in 20 hours. No game is going to give you a constant stream of new content for hours and hours. Skyrim is the same fetch quests in the same environments. You might play it for 100 hours, but you're still repeating content. At least Destiny you gives you a reason to keep coming back. There's nothing wrong with grinding for loot, that's the entire point of the game. You are acting like it's some sort of hidden agenda when it's not.

  • Youre entirely missing the point. There's no further explanation I can give to make you stop talking in circles.

I didn't miss the point - you never made one. You are simply wrong. You are trying to pretend like there's some hidden agenda when there isn't. Destiny is offering you a reason to keep playing. It justifies it's cost more than any other game. No other console game offers the longevity that Destiny offers. You call it "repetitive" but if it were really "repetitive" you wouldn't keep playing. Playing any other FPS over and over is repetitive. Destiny offers much more than that. It offers new gear and guns and new experiences by having cooperative events where you meet new people. But all that aside, you still have a fully functional, singular experience (if you just want to play it once) and a full PvP multiplayer game just like any other FPS. You are ragging on Destiny for offering an incentive to keep playing. You might as well say "Pokemon is a scam because they just want you to collect pokemon!" - Do you know why this statement sounds absurd? Because collecting pokemon is the point of pokemon. Grinding for loot is the point of Destiny. Your "point" is equally absurd. Some may be impressed by your armchair psychology but I'm not.
