If you wish to solo content then yes, one doesn't need a gjallarhorn, but if you hope to join any fireteam and not be ridiculed or kicked then one needs a gjallarhorn

And that is a huge issue. Gjallarhorn should not be required for [i]anything[/i] and any fire team that would ridicule or kick for lack of one single weapon was just made up of scrubs anyway.

I second this. The whole point of Destiny is to group up with other Guardians to complete tasks for chances at good gear. Once my friend told me that a Bladedancer was required for 34 PoE, and I called bullshit. I did it with me playing as a Sunsinger with two Defenders. No single class, weapon, or item is required to do anything in Destiny. Sure, a G-Horn makes Skolas much quicker. But that doesn't mean that you can't beat it with a team, even consisting of Khvostovs. Albeit that would be ridiculous and would take ages, it's possible. People need to stop making assumptions of equipment based on a loot system composed of a RNG, it's just stupid and unrealistic.
