You must remember, this was for kids who grew up before "trigger warnings", when bullying and broken bones were just a part of growing up and children were largely autonomous (no cell phones to check up on them). You think this is dark, try watching the episode of [i]Sesame Street[/i] where Big Bird has to learn to come to terms with the death of Mr. Hooper.

  • Go back and list all the Disney cartoons (not including Pixar) where both parents are alive in the end. It's a short list. - Sleeping Beauty - 101 Dalmations - Peter Pan - Alice in Wonderland (maybe) - Mulan - Tangled ... that may be about it.
