First I want to start by saying absolutely no weapon should be nerfed
Dumbest shit I've heard.

How so?

Edited by Adam: 5/5/2015 2:50:33 AMBecause if a weapon is completely broken, it needs to be nerfed to maintain some sort of balance. People on these forums don't like to hear it because they're so ignorant to balance or so needing of their crutches, but fact is, if something is so much better than everything else that it makes them irrelevant, then it needs to be fixed. If there are 20+ weapons, but only one that's actually worth using, then the balancing team has failed. "Why not just buff everything else?" people say. Well, because then every gun would have a time to kill of 0.6 seconds, it would take 100x the work, and it'd be a stupid way of handling it. But having said that, Bungie suck at weapon balancing. What they've done to ARs is ridiculous. They need to make sure that when they do nerf things, which they will, *coughTHORNcough*, that they don't go too far.
-
i guess i can agree with that. thorn does not need a nerf though. it just needs more weapons that can fairly counter it like red death for example. but the vex and fusions were the only nerfs that were actually needed. ARs range and and rate of fire can stay where its at, just buff the impact so that necrochasm can kill something other than a level 4 dreg on earth patrol.

Edited by Adam: 5/5/2015 12:09:38 PMThe main problem is the Time To Kill. In a game where most weapons take around 1 second to kill, having just 2 that kill in half of that is broken. I just hope they fix the TTK but still leave it as a strong, viable choice. In my opinion if they buff AR's back to what they were, but leave the range nerfed (And give extra love to the low impact ones) Nerf exotic Hand Cannons and give PR's a very, very slight nerf (Like 2%) The game will be the most balanced it's been
-
Personally I don't have a problem with Thorn it rarely kills me... I just don't stand around like a lemon headchecking the shots like a fool. TLW on the other hand...
-
Yep, that's the other one. They're both ridiculous. Balance the pair of them and the game becomes a lot better in my opinion.
-
How would you balance them? The range? Nah that'd basically turn it into a boxing match... Plus a TLW would still be a bit too powerful even with reduced range. Funny thing is that a Red Death can two piece people if I land headshots and I don't see people complaining about it...
-
Edited by Adam: 5/5/2015 3:26:46 PMThat's because to two-burst with Red Death, at least 5 out of 6 of the shots in those 2 bursts have to be headshots, which is a lot trickier than people think. It's a difficult gun to master and requires a skilled and well practiced hand. If you aren't two-bursting them the TTK is long enough that most other guns can compete. In other words, it can't be spammed and won't turn a noob into a threat. Hence why no one complains about it. Red Death is really strong, but it's balanced by it's difficulty of use. Same with Hawkmoon. Thorn and The Last Word aren't like that. How would I balance them? Remove Send it from Thorn, lower the stability and reduce the DoT by 2 damage per tick. With The Last Word I'd nerf the range (so that it's as low as the stats say) and stop the bonus damage proccing even when ADS.

Edited by john_osborne: 5/5/2015 3:53:47 PMI agree with the ADS but that's because that's a glitch that Bungie hasn't gotten around to fix yet. I think anybody that doesn't know how to dodge a Thorn or take cover is a noob themselves dude. You can literally crouch down to slow that Burning shit. ... And if you really think it needs "skill" to simply hold L1 and R1 to kill somebody then I find that way of thinking very... Stupid... In all honesty. None of the weapons require "skill", you just need to know basic functions of certain weapons and know how to play an FPS game. Some weapons are easily counterable like Thorn and some are just quite exploitable like that Iron Banner Sniper with that Final Round bullshit, or TLW with it's messes up ADS. I'm not saying Thorn should or shouldn't be nerfed. I'm just saying that people are bitching over nothing. And no I don't use Thorn or Handcannons for that matter.
None of the weapons require "skill", you just need to know basic functions of certain weapons and know how to play an FPS game
. Which is a skill..... Yeah, 'cos when a it gets those two headshots in 0.3 seconds it's SO easy to dodge
-
Edited by john_osborne: 5/5/2015 3:59:32 PMA 'skill' to hold L1 and R1... Riiiggghhhttt... And Run and slide to crouch. Burnings won't hurt as bad. Simple. You must be the type of person who also complained about Blink-Shotgun Spammers when all you need to do is just run forward to throw them off.
-
so the PvP just consists of pressing R1 and L1? I never knew that. If you come up against anyone half decent with Thorn in the future, you'll understand.

Edited by john_osborne: 5/5/2015 4:04:09 PMFor Thorn users it does. Ba-ziiinnnggg! Heh. But in all seriousness, I find it funny when a Thorn user shoots me two times and all of a sudden stops and then I slide shotgun them and I stay crouched for a few seconds and I don't die. Recieved a lot of hatemail for being called a "Hacker" that way actually. XD And yes I went up against many Thorn users. So your point is mute.
