Yeah, once I got to that point, I began using him to purchase armor or armor upgrades that offered better stat rolls. That's something to keep in mind with your favorite exotic armor pieces.

I've upgraded/bought a few armor pieces for better stats, but it has to be about 15 points higher than what I have for me to even bother doing it.

Honestly though, that's a LOT of grinding to level up for just a few points of stat in most cases- and it's hard for me to tell the difference in stat builds anyway. Maybe I need to pay more attention. I did shard a Starfire Protocol in favor of one that Nightfall gave me, since the new one had superior unleveled stats compared to the old one only 1 step from full power; but that was free, compared to buying it from Xur.

Yeah, I only do it if it's substantial, and on an exotic I frequently use. Leveling them up doesn't seem that bad. I just hold on to my maxed out version until the other gets leveled up through bounties, or equipping at the end of weekly and daily missions. Obviously that only works if Xur is selling the armor, not just the upgrade.
