It was in the patch notes, they intended it to happen. Marks are useless making them exchangeable for materials was an actual good change making them useful.

I would disagree as I am overflowing with materials. Honestly I would rather exchange materials for marks and rep than marks for materials.
-
Then you've wasted a lot of time. Marks were and still are useless period exchanging them for materials actually made them use full.
-
You must be one of those PvP exclusive players because that is the only situation were you are correct. If you played PvE you would realize how easier ( and cheap) materials really are.

Edited by tenteisai: 6/18/2015 4:17:28 PMNope, I just joined a clan like your supposed to to play this game to its fullest. Farming materials was a waste of time and time consuming I can run vog three times in two hours and get more shards by getting chests and busting down gear I don't need than farming useless materials for marks to buy stuff to bust down or weapons that are junk. I've never needed to buy anything with marks but materials. I routinely have 200 marks just sitting there. You can check peoples profiles and see what they have done. I've done pve far more than PVP so your theory is moot.
-
What you consider a waste of time, other people might cal enjoyable. It's incredibly short sighted to think that just because you don't enjoy something that it then serves no purpose. A lot of people found the old marker useful. Why didn't Bungie institute both? Why does it have to be one or the other?
-
Edited by tenteisai: 6/18/2015 4:38:57 PMObviously the majority of people found it a pain and a waste of time and when I'm taking about what I do with my time then only my opinion on the subject matters and farming materials was a waste of time. They could have both but its the same reason they reuse so many maps instead of making new ones their lazy.
-
In a game with such little content, and like you said reused maps, perhaps removing a feature isn't such a smart idea. If enough people hated farming materials than a market for that is a good idea. I'm saying there was no reason to remove the old feature in place of the new one. I think they removed it due to short sightedness. Which they (Bungie) have shown many times before. Part of the problem is that people take what they dislike about them game, and with no thought as to how that might affect the bigger picture, demand change. Enough people do this and features like Mats for Marks gets removed when we should be adding content not removing it.
-
They did it to remove grind which when your talking about Destiny whose main mechanic is grinding, that's not a bad thing that was the main reason they made the change. Removing the grinding for materials didn't remove content it removed a grind which most people agree destiny has way too much of.
-
Dude, I don't know how to make this clearer. Removing Mats for Marks had nothing to do with the grind. Nothing. At all. How could it? Even when you're not purposely grinding for materials a player still picks them up from chests, planetary bounties, and now public events. Wouldn't it have been nice to have ANOTHER way to use those materials? Like, I don't know, in a market where you can trade those materials for something else? I want MORE markets with MORE stuff to buy and sell. I want you to be able to trade marks for materials. I also want to be able to trade my planetary materials for something else. You want something removed because you didn't find it useful. That's a clear cut example of selfishness and short sightedness. Both of which are a killer in business.

Edited by tenteisai: 6/18/2015 5:11:24 PMAre your phucking kiding? I've been playing from launch. Yeah now you can get them from lot of other sources but in the beginning before they switched marks for materials, the need to grind chest for a couple hours to get up enough relic iron or worse spirit bloom was all my clan spent time doing and then if you got another ass bag who didnt understand everyone could open the chests it made it even worse because he would run the routes backwards to beat you to the chests. Trading are you kiding? They now have more trading, you can trade energy, shards, glimmer, motes and marks. I don't want materials removed who said that? I just like I don't have to farm the damn things to lvl my stuff. You want trading materials for what? Shards, Raident materials, motes? What would be the point of having Raids? POE? Strikes? Any of it it would just be you running around farming materials to get what you want with out actually playing the game. They've made that game its called farmville its on facebook. If you seriously think farming materials didn't add to the grind, then you haven't really played this game. At least not from launch.

Dude, you clearly can't read. I can't help you there. You also can't comprehend what it written. I want to be able to trade in my planetary materials for something, anything. Answer me this question: Can I trade planetary materials in for anything?
No, you can't
Boom, I win. Sorry, brah.
-
There is no win here and I can read fine. If you need to "win" a discussion on a internet forum you've already failed at life. Why do you need to trade materials in? For what? Exactly you just want to trade them and you don't care for what. You need materials to lvl equipment you don't need marks to lvl anything. Stop being OCD.
-
I'll stop being OCD when you stop being incompetent. My desire is for a bigger, more immersive market. You desire is to is to misread and misinterpret what is written online and then spew garbage because your comprehension skills are lacking. Also, the new weapons use even less planetary materials than ever before. Here, I will make this very, very clear one more time and then you can kindly go play in traffic. Are you ready? I want a market that has every piece of material in this game for sale. I want you to be able to buy planetary materials. I also want to be able to trade in my planetary materials that I get from NOT grinding. Jesus, why is that so hard for you grasp? BOOM MUTED
-
Edited by tenteisai: 6/18/2015 6:25:10 PMShould have known you're dumbass xbone player the minute you wanted everything purchasable. My comprehension skills as well as my reading are fine troglodyte. "I want a more immersive market" your probably one of the retards that spend hours playing shop keeper and trading in WOW or second life. You want every material purchase able. Why am I not surprised so can buy your way through the game instead actually playing it, typical lazy ass gamer from this generation. Here is a clue dumbass when you complete bounties you're grinding, when open chest as you do strikes your grinding, while you lvl that weapon your, grinding!! just because you're to phucking stupid to understand this games main mechanic is grinding isn't my fault. Go play mine craft you lazy piece of shit.
-
I bought all kinds of shit with the marks, like weapons and armor. I had less use exchanging them for materials. But I did see the appeal. I want it both ways.
-
I can see it getting abused both ways. Buy some mats with marks then trade the mats for marks and rank. If they implemented it right then it would work (like can't trade the mats you bought, only trade the ones you picked from the planets)
-
I think even with the current exchange rate of marks for materials, if that were to be used with a market of materials for marks, the conversion rate would be so awful that abusing it would SEEM counter productive. I mean, it's 10 marks for 50 materials, then it was 50 materials for 5 marks, I believe. The conversion rate would be awful if people abused it. And if they're willing to take that horrible exchange rate, I say go for it.
-
The only thing I've ever bought with marks was gear to bust down or materials, both for upgrading raid gear. I've had 200 marks for weeks now and that was problem too before the change. I get people liked the farming (for some unknown mentally unstable reason) but the majority liked the change.
-
I don't hate the new market. I think anyone who wanted to exchange marks for materials should be able to. What some people aren't grasping is that there should be MORE options not FEWER. The old system should have been left in place. The exchange rate is so awful that people abusing the exchange are shooting themselves in the foot, but have at it. People, like me, enjoy farming because it's stress free and the repetitive nature of it can be cathartic and relaxing after a day at work. Just because you don't enjoy farming doesn't mean those who do are "mentally unstable." But I can see how you would think it was mind numbing and boring. You appear to be a hardcore raider, good for you. Once again, just because you don't like something doesn't mean other didn't find it useful. I find marks EXTREMELY useful. Or, make all the other factions take vanguard marks except for crucible vendors.
