I guess that's why it's so successful. I just have no reason to believe that the father denied him for no reason. It's easier to assume that the boyfriend is a bad guy than to assume that the father would turn him down without a good reason.

I don't doubt that. It's just that the boyfriend could have said something like, "I understand your reservation. Let me assure you that I'm a responsible individual and will take good care of your daughter." Instead he says, "WHY YOU GOTTA BE SO RUUUUUDE?!?!"
