I wonder was Gearbox even agreeing with itself when they did the PreSequel....because it's different team from the one that did 1 & 2 right.
It'd explain why they changed him.

Well, every villain needs a backstory. They had probably come up with it already, and the second team had the chance to bring that story to life.

I agree, but...I think the teams may have had two completely different ideas on how he should have been before he become the boss of borderlands 2. He isn't even..like... I don't know. he isn't the type of villain doing bad for the greater cause...he became dick

I disagree that they had separate visions. At the end of the Pre-Sequel, he officially becomes Handsome Jack, personality and all. He still thinks he's working for the greater good, but now will allow for no chances of betrayal after the events of the Pre-sequel. He becomes ruthless, but still obviously thinks he's the hero. Everything matches up quite nicely. I don't think the two teams would diverge so much on such an influential character in the Borderlands universe.
