Complete Guide: how to be a better pvp player. Chapter 1: part 2

I can't believe I hit the character count Part 1: link Become a Shepherd: Now you're starting to get more and more comfortable in your ability in winning gunfights. You did it so many times it's boring, your heart doesn't race as fast as it used to. Time to move close and closer to the B flag. Here you will be poaching on wolf hunting grounds. Not only do you have to worry about your enemies' wolves but you have to worry about yours too. They will steal all of your kills. Try to stay away from them. A good way to do this while still gaining experience is to become a shepherd. Your job now, is to become a sheep again. Kind of. Your job now is to travel close but not with the heard
never travel with the herd
you must apply your new found knowledge and abilities to protect your sheep as best you can as they cap the objectives. Keep the wolves off them by engaging the wolves in one on one gunfights away from the flag in a position that will favour your triumph. Use your gained knowledge of map layout to determine these positions. Remember: abandon you position if you see that you are going to lose the gunfight and bother another wolf. Slowing one wolf down is good enough. Once your confident enough you can move more out into the open and maybe join the other shepherds. But I don't recommend it yet. They are more efficient in killing than you and you will have trouble keeping up with them you still need to practice your gunfights more. Give it some time and you'll be able to join the shepherds. Once you get you training done and feel comfortable you can go alone into enemy territory and terrorize their flank routes to become a wolf. You can join the shepherds and protect your sheep. Or like me, a wolf in sheep's clothing. I join the herd sometimes to bait out enemy wolves. But I mostly act like a shepherd. Getting good takes time. But the first step, where you see immediate results, is when you take that red pill. Take that red pill and sit back. leave the herd and observe

  • This would probably be a good YouTube series so you can demonstrate all 3 roles you defined on each map. You could probably get into more 'advanced' techniques such as baiting, using vertical space, escape routes, using different grenades both offensively and defensively, etc. Good write up for beginners though.

    • Ok after reading the second part I think I fall into the category of Shepherd.. which actually makes sense. I know I'm not a wolf and I don't do simple sheep style tactics. I prefer to only go after "B" and tend to defend it for most of the match.

          • Based on my stats and all that what would you classify me as? I'm curious I enjoy clash more than control but I'll play both every now and then

              • PVP in this game (control at least) is entirely about knowing what battles to pick and knowing the maps. If you have two control points under lock down and they keep rushing you to die, then don't push for that third and -blam!- it all up. Know your maps and change your load outs as required. I change up my weapons almost every match, and play a different subclass based on what map we are on. Firebase I always run as a stryker with armentarium. Why? Because I can tag a lightning grenade into each corridor by B to weaken/kill the enemy to try and force them to come through up top. I run defender on Twilight gap with st 14 to create a choke point from C-A. It's really all practice practice practice and knowing when to change your play style.

                        • Pretty good advice, except for staying away from teammates because they kill steal. I would give anything to have teammates that shot at the enemies I was shooting. "...On the bright side" for life.

                        • It's simple to be good. Just takes time. Figure out what guns are good, and what guns you're good with. Then figure out your weaknesses and avoid them. Boils down to winning 1v1 fights more often than you lose them.

                          • Thiis is actually a good description of what type of players are out there. And how they tend to act . Although the thing I haven't seen yet is a read about different play styles. The different types would be a fun read. Eg. Aggressive close range , passive close range , aggressive midrange defensive mid range, etc. I think it could be helpful to new players and maybe clear up some confusion to the question what kind of playstyle am I. And what do I do best with. But experience is always a must. Keep up the good work guardian
