Why to Have an Uncommon Sniper Rifle During a Nightfall
Okay, now that the title got your attention, let me explain this a bit more in def. So a few days ago I was running around with my lowest level character who hasn't even reached level 20 yet, and I came across an uncommon sniper rifle with the "Shoot to Loot" perk. Now, I've never seen this perk before, but it enables you to pick up ammo just by shooting it. So I'll be sniping during a nightfall and bam... out of ammo. I see ammo across the map but it's right next to the boss, lucky me. Dang. And I don't really want to use a special ammo synth, so I just equip my amazing uncommon sniper rifle and I snipe that nice looking green ammo, and then my magazine is relieved of its hunger. (Found some heavy ammo nearby as well) Then I switched back to by regular sniper and repeated. Has anyone else been lucky enough to come across a weapon with this perk? It is such a blessing!

1 ReplyUmm this has been around a long time. I understand if you weren't lucky enough to get them or didn't care enough to read perks before dismantling weapons but I have a scout rifle with shoot to loot on each character just for that purpose.

It comes on scout rifles too. Usually preferable because you don't lose ammo switching

3 RepliesDon't you lose the special ammo switching back to a decent gun? Could be good for heavy. I always say I'm going to keep one around but usually just end up scraping it. They should make a good exotic sniper that has that as a third perk as long as it still has decent other exotic perks of course

It's better on the scout rifles, I've gotten a few of them.

1 ReplyI pull out a bag of Cheetos when I run out of ammo. By the time I eat the whole bag, the other fire team members have killed everything. I buy the $3 bags which are pretty big.

I have one on each character. The trick is not to use you last sniper shot or you're stuck switching to icebreaker and losing your gally or truth shots

I have two weapons with shoot-to-loot; both rare, a sniper rifle and a scout rifle with explosive rounds. I prefer the scout because you don't loose special ammo when switching special weapons and it deals good damage as is. It's amazing how many players haven't heard of this perk!

I use my uncommon sniper to solo mid conflux on vog, my scoutrifle two shots the vex on hard so I just snipe more primary to top up and rocket ammo for the minotaurs to save synths.

In other news, local man forgets how to kill Thrall and get special ammo drops that way.

see the problem with your story is that if you run your sniper out then you wouldn't have any ammo to fire at the boxes :) just giving you a hard time. It is definitely useful for that and you can find that perk on some rare scout rifles too

It's a useful perk sometimes. I find it most useful on a Scout. You only lose one round of primary when switching back and forth, but on a special, it's more like a 50% loss. BTW, you used to be able to shoot an ammo brick multiple times. This meant you could completely fill up on heavy ammo from a single heavy drop. The problem was, it worked in PvP, so bungie patched it to only allow one pick up per ammo brick. Since then, I deleted all but one Shoot to Loot, a Rare Primed midnight Scout.

I've got a rare sniper with that + AP rounds. If I wanted to I could use that and cheese out of the map for dayssss. Also have a damn good scout with shoot to loot

you can also get this on scout rifles, personally i find this more effective on scouts but still nice on snipers as well

If you were out of sniper ammo, what did you shoot the ammo pack with?

It was originally the special Perk of patience and time. Well technically it had been the closing time at the time.
