When I ran the strikes I had a hell of a time getting the achievement for a perfect strike because of people doing this.
Destiny is a slot machine, each enemy killed is another pull at the machine. That's why some of us take our time.
The question truly is which is faster: getting killed, splash screen the respawn or help the team get there? I honestly do not know. We are not talking 30 minutes either way for this section, but is it really that much quicker? Not trying to be a dick, I am serious, to me they seem about the same amount of time, with the chance of no loot, and the chance of loot.
That said, I usually wait to see what the other people on the team do. The section with the pikes you can speed through. The second part of that with the hydras, usually the first person makes it, but the second and third usually get screwed. unless one of them goes right, but then there are the vex to deal with. I am ok with either, but wait to see because sometimes there is one that rushes through, one that doesn't. I'll help the one that doesn't.
Had to laugh on the weekly though, as EVERY TIME I did that strike, someone, or both tried to rush through there only to be met with the minotaurs (void burn). After I killed everything, rezzed them, then they were slaughtered by the hydras. In ROC, this works, Nightfall / Weekly with void burn, no.

Just for the record, someone rushing ahead does not count as a death for the strike without dying.

How so? It is a death on the strike. I had many where nobody died of what I will call natural causes (during a team firefight), but someone rushed ahead to drag us along. It doesn't count for me, that is correct, since I did not die, but it does count against the team one. It is like the flawless raider one.

Eh, I prefer just running by the hydras. I can do it pretty much consistently at this point... I dunno, the radar picks up fireteam members pretty far away, and in order for this to work they REALLY have to be a long way away from you in order to trigger the wipe. Obviously, the whole thing doesn't work if one of the other two teammates is within radar range, because if I die at that point, I'll just stay dead. Also yes, this doesn't work in Nightfall (obviously), and shouldn't be attempted in the weekly unless you're gonna use a hunter or something and go invisible. But if I'm that far ahead of my team that I can perform this shortcut, why shouldn't I? On the other hand, I've had teammates on strikes that were AFKing/doing their own thing, and when they get wiped and teleported to the boss area, suddenly they start participating. I'm not talking about letting your teammates die, THEN wiping instead of killing the adds and reviving them. I'm talking about, you've managed to get past everything so much faster than your team that they're not even on your radar display anymore... that's the only time I do this trick.

It's not a trick really, to be honest. It is the strange way they put the game together. Like I said, I look at what the team is doing. If A is just sitting there and B heads off for the hills, I go with B. If A is trying to gun stuff down and B heads off, I'll stick by A. If A and B take off, I do too. If A and B are just sitting there, I take my time. If I want, need too, I can get through there as well. My thing is I try to stick with the team, since the other people may not know how to get around some of the stuff. This is why I haven't done a raid, I need someone to walk me, not carry me, through where to go and what to do. Most just want to wham-bam, and I am not fast enough so kick. On some of the strikes, I have seen the same thing, and want to help. My sister was trying to get gear, so we were killing everything we could to get her drops. This is why we didn't rush through. When I see folks doing this, I assume this is what they are doing. If we are all 31/32, then there is less reason to, but if I am 'slumming', I'll help them get through. Why, I've been there and know it sucks. I have been teamed with folks that are using blues and greens, while I have a legendary or exotic. I make sure they get a couple shots in so it for sure counts, then I may finish them off, or go for the heavy hitters (in this strike the minotaurs or the hobgoblins). Frankly, I don't care, since all the strikes can be finished <15 minutes. It takes longer for the damn game to load than do some of them. I haven't done ROCs for a while since I have maxed merits and nothing I want. Each character is carrying a small arsenal and the vault is full. Maybe after the vault increase I'll start doing them some more.

Yeah. These are all good points. I only really do this at level 30+ anyway, when matchmaking pretty much guarantees you being placed with 2 other people who are just grinding the strikes like you are. Because of RNG, I tend to just get in the mindset of, going for the Big Loot Reward at the end, and everything else is just time in between. By my 20th ROC strike of the day, I just start looking for efficiency loopholes out of boredom. This was one I discovered, and was just wondering if anybody else had discovered anything similar.
