Why not both? Is it that much to ask for a game that is engaging, has lots to do, experience, work on collecting, all while having fun with friends? If I wanted purely a social time I'd go out with friends. Perhaps you should too. The real world is a far more social place than a video game world. Video games give me a bit of a personal challenge. That's the fun for me. Whether it's acing a guitar hero song on expert or killing some ridiculously complicated boss after weeks of wiping and having the trophies to be reminded of that achievement.
