Good. Let's slow down those currents. They were going waaaaay to fast.

Sorry, just bored, honestly I couldn't give 2 Shiites about whatever the ocean does. No reason to sit around and argue about stuff that has sooooo much support on both sides. If one side was right, wouldn't be anything to talk bout
-
I am having flashbacks to sitting on the hump in the back seat and my brother and cousin are both 100% sure about every detail about their epic arguments and the other one is wrong about everything or twisting the facts. I knew not to say anything so I just sat there on the hump while they argued around me. By the way how come I was always on the hump??

One side is right, and there's only soooo much opposition because big oil has sooooo much $$$$$ and anything done about global warming hurts their bottom line.

You may be right! But there are guys on the other side just as sure as you are! The thing that led me to reply to this thread was the thing about whether it's gotten hotter in the last 15 years, I have been making fun of those headlines to my friends for a while, it was like we were in alternate realities every time there was a new headline. It was like "yes it's hotter! You guys are idiots if you think it's not hotter! You're lying about it being hotter! 2014 was the hottest year ever so take that!! And plus, here is why it hasn't gotten hotter!" Wut, did I hear that right?! I know from my own dealings with people that once a dude wants to win an argument, most of the time he sees everything in a way that supports his argument and thinks you're dumb or tries to shout you down if you don't see it too and suddenly it felt like that to me! So it HAS NOT gotten hotter, why were you ridiculing them for saying that all last year instead of saying "yeah, we need to figure out why but we think it's still a problem." Because they didn't want to concede any points! This is the whole problem with the whole thing! But I don't trust the other side either! I honestly don't know who, if anyone, to believe. I just want people from both sides to go to a retreat or something, hear from all the best scientists, talk about it for as long as they want, and then decide what to do. I don't think either I, or my dumbass friends, or probably most people who don't own research facilities can really judge because the information we get is either too highly interpreted or not interpreted enough. I CAN believe the oil companies are paying to undermine it! But I can also believe people are invested enough in solar or whatever that they skew things their way too! Ultimately I do not think a conference full of smart people with all the information are going to say, well let's see, I can doom my grandkids to a fiery death, or I can take this oil check, I think I'll take the oil check. They might look for a win-win where the oil companies aren't hit as hard as under other plans but they aren't going to take the doom-my-grandchildren option! At least not most of them! However I cannot prove this so I might be wrong.

Simply look to the data. The data is clear. The issue arises when people start looking at ways to solve the problem. That's where the giant conflict comes from. So the side with the most too lose has set out to undermine the data. There's international agreement for a reason.
-
I am smart enough to know I'm dumb lol. Look at which data? You say look at this data, somebody else says look at this data instead. Like in my example, the scientist side was making fun of people saying it hadn't gotten hotter, like, they are totally lying, don't pay attention to them, it HAS gotten hotter. And then there's a big story explaining why it hasn't gotten hotter ... like they never said it has! I think they were telling half truths, the truth (as I understand it from the articles) is, it DID get hotter, but like 1% as much as they had been predicting, so by saying "yes it has gotten hotter", they were technically being honest, just leaving out the little detail about it being a lot less than expected. It seems like to me, they didn't want to admit something and lose "debate points" until they had a way to explain it. And I am not saying the explanation is wrong either (heat stored in oceans and they can't hold much more so it will catch up with us now), I am just saying I hate when there is an argument and someone tries to say one side is dumb and should shut up. Because I am usually the dumb one told to shut up!

This the best comprehensive website on it there is. Yes I know its government, but the fact there's a huge amount of oil money in government and the fact that this site still is around should mean something. Climate.NASA.gov

-
No idea lol. I just watch with her.
-
So any one that disagrees does so because of big oil paying them? Sorry but that's the second biggest assumption I've heard on here . I guess I better choose big oils side so I can get a check from them every month :D bye
-
Definitely was referring to politicians. And I promise if you look at the ones who deny it, they receive lobby money from the oil industry.
-
Came back to read.. Hmm makes sense. If global warming is an issue you don't really care much about, then it makes sense to advocate for whoever will pay you more. Oil companies have more money so it makes more sense to side with them. If green companies want to be heard them they need to replace oil. Simple as that. If they can't make more money then why would they have support?
-
They need support because the point isn't necessarily the money.

I gotta go now, phones at 30 % :o this app drains it like a percent every 30 seconds lol
