I wouldn't be against removing them but this game is built on the foundation of Teamwork. Orbs are only really abused if one team is playing as a team and the other is just a bunch of randoms from matchmaking.
If anything, teams should be attempted to be matched with other teams of similar size and randoms only matched with other randoms.

I agree completely. But they have already made it so you (are more likely) to be matched against a fireteam if you are in a fireteam
