This is kind of a hackish way to do it, but it works for me. If you have developer tools enabled on Chrome, right click on the 3d rendering and choose "Inspect Element." Don't get intimidated by what appears if you're not familiar with web technology. Just look for an item that starts with:
<div class="character3DWrap character_Hunter">
(or whatever the character type is) Click on that, and in the righthand pane make sure you're in the "Styles" tab, then add the following to element.style:
display: none;
As soon as I did that my computer stopped cooking while the page was up. But you have to do this each time you load the page, or build an override into your user agent stylesheet if you know how.

    Wow man I really appreciate the help. As well as taking the time to respond to both my thread Resddit and on Bungie.net. I have a little experience using the "inspect element" feature with Chrome but had no idea what to look for specifically. Actually since I made those posts I've come across a few other ways to make things easier. Maybe they can help you or maybe you already know about them. First I came across this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/2y7mvb/sga_disable_webgl_in_chrome_to_speed_up_bungienet/ It works pretty well but as you said you'd need to do this every time. The other is an extension that is actively being developed for Chrome called Destiny Item Manager. You can find more information at on Reddit at /r/DestinyItemManager as well as by searching /r/DestinyTheGame. Some awesome features include being able to create load outs and transfer multiple pieces of gear with one click. Lastly is a application for Android called Packmule. It's a little hard to get used to at first, but still faster than using the Bungie website or app. Again thank you for replying to my questions so long after they had been posted. Hope these suggestions help you in turn. Cheers.

  • WHOA this Chrome extension is amazing, sooo much easier than the official site or app. If he makes some simple improvements, this will be hands-down a required pro tool. Thanks for the tip!
