Where's the controversy? It's not like you said they defiled the bodies of everything they [i]did[/i] shoot.
Anyway, I think [b]Plot Armor[/b] is the word you're looking for.

You say plot armor, I say dastardly sith plan to allow the rebels to escape to be tracked to their base.

They didn't have to spare [i]all[/i]of them. And what about Bespin? They gained nothing letting Leia, Lando, and Chewy get away.

How many times did that particular group of rebels serve the empires purposes? They got luke to come to Bespin. Your average rebels wouldnt do half of the daring things vader takes advantage of. Normal rebels wouldnt try to escape with only 5 people.

1. Scout troopers are not fully qualified. 2. Vader could have killed them when he captured them if he wanted them dead. 3. Stormtroopers on endor outnumbered in foreign territory against camouflaged enemies while wearing bright white armor. Kind of a losing battle.

(It was a poorly explained battle anyway. Teddy Bears with sticks and rocks win out against fully armored soldiers with walkers and blasters?) My whole point is that there is absolutely no reason to let any rebel survive that battle. Why would they purposely miss this time?

On endor they were more outmatched with numbers, camo, and home field advantage. There were a lot of dead ewoks that day.
