Hashtagging threads with your username

Is this a really douchey thing to do? It's just been suggested to me that this is a good way of keeping track of your own threads, since we temporarily don't have a saved thread feature, but at the same time, even my inner attention whore (well, let's be honest...my outer attention whore) cringes at the thought of tagging every single thread I make with "#jaythenerdkid", as though I myself am always my only topic of discussion. (EVEN THOUGH I AM RIGHT HOHO) What do you think? Does this read as a little desperate, or just useful?

I mean, I guess some people have a legitimate reason but I'm sure some do it to be at least a little self-serving. #AWWYEAH is a superior tag, anyway.

    • Well you are doing it and you have been tagging #realharlow like people care

      • Well, you have a post history, so I don't really see the point. As for those "Sapphire" and "RealHarlow" tags which also bare no relevance to the thread, you could probably do away with those by just posting all your threads in the sapphire group and making them public.

      • You give me a post history and saved threads that aren't a pain in the ass to navigate and I'll stop doing it.

      • As much as I have seen of it to be self serving / self advertising, I personally dislike the practice. If we get a SAVED THREAD option back I believe the only legitimate reason for doing this would go away.

          • Using the built in favorite system in your web browser seem less conceited and equally as effective. Liking your own topics works as well for a temporary save (or rather, a saved thread list that is much harder to navigate).

          • Eh, I do it. Years from now I will use that tag to see all the stupid things I've said so I can facepalm at all my ignorant and immature posts and comments.

I do this all the time now Jay. But I did feel like I might be an attention whore (or at least that I might come over that way) when #jfkes was trending for about an hour or so earlier today.

          • 50/50, some might think it's being douchy. I think it's a good idea to keep track of our own threads.

Meh. Not really. It is a really good way to keep track of your threads.

          • I do it to keep track of my threads. The advertising is kind of obnoxious though.

            • Don't worry Jay, I'll tag your name in my threads and ruin the whole idea.

              • I think it ultimately depends on the person. It could read both desperate and useful but I see how it could be very helpful.

              • Well, tags are designed to sort threads so it makes sense to use them to make it easier to find things later. It's the most practical way of keeping track of things until a saved thread feature is implemented (or at least an activity tracker for groups). It is unfortunate that the tag appears in the "trending" section if you do it enough, though. The whole trending section is kind of redundant at the moment because it seems it just has the most recent tags on display.

              • It's not wrong. People are just thinking about this in the confines of the old forum too much. Certain "restrictions/confines/boundaries" don't exist here. They implemented the tagging system for us to tag our posts with various things.

              • makes sense as a way of keeping track of your own threads, but it'll be seen as attention whoring whether you mean it to or not.

              •
Is this a really douchey thing to do?
Totally
Does this read as a little desperate
In my view, yes. It appears to be more of the same old attention mongering that many have done in the past, only in a new form.
